Bomb Threats Disrupt Universities in Delaware and Beyond
Universities in Delaware and beyond faced unexpected disruption Tuesday when multiple bomb threats led to lockdowns and evacuations. The University of Delaware (UD) and Delaware State University (DSU) were among those affected.
The day started with a threat at DSU in Dover, around 11 a.m. Classes were promptly cancelled for the rest of the day, and non-essential staff were sent home. Meanwhile, at UD in Newark, a report of an explosive device in a campus building triggered evacuations and a thorough investigation involving multiple agencies. Fortunately, UD later confirmed the report was unfounded, and normal activities resumed. These incidents were part of a wider pattern, with threats reported at universities in Maryland and Texas as well. Despite the alarm, no further details have been made public about the nature of the threats or any potential suspects.
The bomb threats caused significant disruption at UD and DSU, with classes and work suspended while authorities investigated. Thankfully, no explosives were found, and normal operations have since resumed. The universities and local law enforcement continue to work together to ensure the safety of students and staff.
