Blooms from Chengdu cast a spell of Chinese enchantment over Kuwait
In the heart of Kuwait, a cultural event aimed at promoting understanding between the two nations took place. H.E. Liu Xiang, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, inaugurated 'A Moonmoment to Remember - Blossoms of Chengdu.'
The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Mohammed Al-Jassar, Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters. The evening served as a new window for Kuwaiti friends to experience the richness of Chinese civilization.
Liu Xiang emphasised the shared values between Kuwait and China, such as care for family and the eagerness of generations to gather together. He explained that culture can serve as a bridge connecting the peoples of Kuwait and China, strengthening the bonds of friendship between them.
The event featured exhibitions showcasing Chengdu's intangible cultural heritage and photography. Chengdu, with over 4,500 years of history, is known worldwide as the home of the beloved giant panda. A performing artistic troupe came from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.
The title of the event, 'A Moonmoment to Remember - Blossoms of Chengdu,' was inspired by a verse from Chinese poet Cheng Jiuling. The verse, written over a thousand years ago, reflects the spirit of shared values between Kuwait and China, promoting harmony, unity, and mutual respect. It says: 'The moon rises from the sea, and its light unites us, no matter the distance between us.'
Liu Xiang described Kuwait as a valued partner and close friend in the shared path of development and cultural exchange. He thanked the Chengdu Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television, and the Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait for their efforts. He also expressed gratitude to the American University of the Middle East for hosting the event.
China and South Korea also highlighted their friendship and cultural cooperation during the event, with participation from institutions such as the Chengdu Municipal Government, the Korean Cultural Center, and local cultural organizations.
As a gesture of further strengthening ties, China exempted Kuwaiti citizens from entry visas last June, which will encourage tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries. Liu Xiang wished the audience an enjoyable evening filled with the beauty of Chinese arts and the warmth of Kuwaiti-Chinese friendship.
