Bielefeld Hosts Global Mental Maths Championship

Bielefeld is set to host the World Mental Maths Championship, an event that brings together young minds from across the globe to tackle complex mathematical problems. Over 600 challenging tasks, including eight-digit multiplications and date-based calculations, will be attempted by participants aged 8 to 19. The championship is organized by Caroline Merkel, who stresses the importance of international exchange and camaraderie among the young competitors.

The event, taking place in Bielefeld, has drawn children and young people from nearly every continent. Local 8- to 19-year-olds have been diligently preparing for the competition, honing their skills in mental arithmetic. The championship promises to be an intellectual spectacle, with participants pushing the boundaries of human calculation.

The championship will be reported on in the morning radio broadcast of Lokalzeit on 06.10.2025. All organizers are working on a voluntary basis, with the Andreas-Mohn Foundation and donors from participants' home countries stepping in to cover the expenses. While the search results do not specify who is financing the travel costs, it's clear that the event is a collaborative effort involving various sponsors.

Following the intense mental workout, participants and their families will have the opportunity to explore Bielefeld and bond over a shared dinner. The World Mental Maths Championship in Bielefeld is more than just a competition; it's a celebration of young talent, international cooperation, and the power of mental arithmetic.
