Banking Sector's Credit Cards and Rewards Strategy in the Year 2025 (City National Bank)
City National Bank, founded in 1954, has expanded its credit card portfolio with a new rewards system, City National Rewards. The system offers points that can be earned and redeemed within the City National Rewards system.
The bank currently offers five credit cards that earn City National Rewards points, three of which are consumer cards and two are business, or commercial, cards.
For consumers, the City National Rewards Visa Platinum card offers 1 point per $1 spent on all purchases, along with various protection and coverage benefits. The City National Rewards Visa Signature card provides more enticing rewards, offering 3x points on gasoline purchases, 2x points on dining and groceries, and 1x point on all other purchases.
For business owners, the Commercial Visa card earns 1 point per $1 spent on all business purchases. The Crystal Commercial Visa card, City National Bank's flagship business credit card, offers additional perks, such as earning 1 point per $1 spent on all business purchases and a 5% discount on taxi and limo rides, up to $5,000 per calendar year per card.
The Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card offers the most extensive rewards for consumers, providing 3x points on airline and hotel purchases, taxi, limousine, rental car, train, and bus purchases, dining purchases, and 1x point on all other purchases. This card also offers various lifestyle benefits, travel-related insurance and protection benefits, and a 24/7 Crystal Card Concierge.
Both the Crystal Commercial Visa card and the Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card come with annual fees: $400 for the former and $400 for the latter, respectively, with an additional $75 per year for each authorized user for the Crystal Commercial Visa card and $95 for each additional card for the Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card.
The Commercial Visa card, on the other hand, has a more modest annual fee of $50 with no authorized user fee.
It's important to note that City National Rewards points cannot be redeemed for cash-back or statement credits. However, if an account is closed or terminated by CNB, points can be redeemed within 60 days before they expire. Points will not expire as long as the account is in good standing and not closed by CNB.
Both the Crystal Commercial Visa card and the Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card offer a range of travel-related benefits, including primary rental car insurance, lost luggage reimbursement, travel and emergency assistance services, and travel and accident insurance. The Crystal Commercial Visa card also offers a $100,000 liability waiver for card misuse, and the Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card provides up to $350 per calendar year in airline lounge club membership fees.
City National Bank uses Visa cards across its entire credit card portfolio, ensuring seamless acceptance and benefits worldwide. Whether you're a business owner or a consumer, City National Bank's rewards system offers a variety of options to help you earn and redeem points for travel, lifestyle benefits, and more.
