Tomsk's Inter-University Campus: A Change in Plans

Hey there! Let's talk about the latest developments concerning Tomsk's inter-university campus.

Initially, the project for this world-class campus was slated for a 30,000 square meter decrease in size, as reported by TASS. However, Timur Muhamadjajanov, the head of the Tomsk region's department for urban development, revealed recently to RIA Tomsk that the size of the campus has been reduced further, from 193,000 square meters to 163,000 square meters. Construction is now planned to commence in 2026, a year later than previously announced.

Muhamadjajanov clarified that the reduction in size primarily affects the space allotted for construction, rather than the buildings themselves. He emphasized that the construction of a modern inter-university campus in Tomsk is an ongoing priority, with the region actively collaborating with federal organizations responsible for creating university campus networks, including PPK "Edinyi zakhodchik" (Edinyi zakhodchik being the sole contractor).

Regarding the altered design, Muhamadjajanov did not disclose specifics about the new budget for the project. He did point out, however, that the modifications to the building sizes were made during the process of refining the architectural and planning solutions for the campus, in line with the updated national rulebook for university buildings.

The Tomsk inter-university campus project, involving six thousand student rooms, laboratories, and a sports center, is considered the largest investment in the region over the past decade and was estimated to cost approximately 42 billion rubles as of April 2023 (TASS). The planned introduction into service is slated for the fourth quarter of 2027.

Initially, the total size of the campus buildings encompassed 162,700 square meters for dormitories accommodating 6,000 students, 15,900 square meters for a multi-purpose center, and 13,300 square meters for a fitness and recreational complex with a swimming pool.

In 2023, the Tomsk region's administration, along with the joint venture GK "Grant" and Gazprombank OOO "Tomsk Student Campus," signed a concession agreement for the construction of the inter-university campus. It was also revealed in 2023 that PPK "Edinyi zakhodchik" was engaged to oversee the design and development of project documentation, as well as optimize the project's cost.
