Alleged student abortion scandal unveiled by high school educator after prolonged covert investigations
In a shocking turn of events, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) are currently under investigation for allegations that school staff arranged and possibly funded abortions for minor students without parental consent, specifically at Centreville High School in 2021.
The initial claims came to light through social media and were also reported to school officials. However, FCPS only became aware of the allegations recently and launched an immediate comprehensive investigation into the matter. An email from 2022 suggests that a teacher had informed the then-principal about these events as early as 2021, raising questions about when FCPS leadership was made aware and what action was taken at that time.
One of the most striking cases involves Zenaida Perez, a former Centreville High School student who claimed that a school social worker helped her arrange an abortion when she was 17 years old. Perez met with the then-principal of Centreville High School, Lehman, multiple times to discuss her concerns about the social worker's actions. Lehman, however, responded that he didn't remember the conversation about the abortion allegations specifically.
Perez's guardian, an uncle, was reportedly "livid" upon learning about the abortion. Perez also claimed that she raised her concerns about the social worker facilitating an abortion to Lehman for a sixth time in a Zoom call with Heidi Siegmund, an attorney investigating a separate issue at the school.
The allegations have garnered significant attention, with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin ordering the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation to conduct a full criminal probe into the matter. Youngkin cited concerns over the facilitation of abortions without parental consent and possible misuse of public funds.
As the investigation remains ongoing, FCPS is cooperating with authorities, but details on standard procedures or final findings have not yet been publicly disclosed. The school division's long-standing relationship with the law firm Blankingship & Keith, who have been hired as outside counsel for years, may also come under scrutiny as part of the investigation.
In a heartening turn of events, Perez returned to Centreville High School from summer break with new resolve after her warnings about the social worker's actions were heard beyond Fairfax County Public Schools. Perez's courage in speaking out has sparked a much-needed conversation about the rights and well-being of minor students in schools across Virginia.
