6 Kentucky Educators Named Finalists for Prestigious PAEMST Award

Six Kentucky educators have been named finalists for the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The awardees include three mathematics teachers and three science teachers, who will now compete for the national honour.

Among the finalists are three mathematics teachers: Jolie Beville, Monica Jones, and Christopher Manker. They are joined by three science teachers: Kimberly Klein, Andrea New, and Catherina Sammons. The first names of the two Kentucky teachers who will eventually receive the PAEMST award remain unspecified.

Each finalist shared their passion for empowering students and igniting curiosity in their respective subjects. They were selected through a rigorous review process led by state selection committees comprising experts in mathematics and science education, district leaders, and classroom teachers. Up to two teachers in mathematics and/or science from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories are eligible for the PAEMST award.

The PAEMST award is the nation's highest honour for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and computer science teachers. Awardees receive a trip to Washington, D.C., a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation, a presidential certificate, and join an elite cohort of award-winning teachers. The finalists from Kentucky have demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in their teaching, and their selection reflects the high standards of education in the state.
